Given the equations 4x−py=6 and 5x+7y=10, find (a) the value of p that makes the lines parallel and (b) the value of p that makes the lines perpendicular. Show all work please :)

Explanation:

(a) the value of p that makes the lines parallel :

=> -4/-p = -5/7

5p = 7×(-4)

5p = -28

p = -28/5 = -5.6

(b) the value of p that makes the lines perpendicular :

=> -4/-p = -1 ÷ (-5/7)

4/p = 7/5

7p = 4×5

7p = 20

p = 20/7 = 2.86
