Explanation:

a) The scale 3:24 = 1:8 so if the scale drawing is 5" tall, then the building's actual height is 5×8 = 40 ft.

b) The ratio of the cement to sand is 1:3 so if you have 24 buckets of sand, that means you need 24/3 = 8 buckets of cement.

c) The ratio at which the money is to be distributed is 5:2:4:3. So the money is to be partitioned into 14 (=5+2+4+3) parts so that A get (5/14) of the money, B gets (2/14), C gets (4/14) and D gets (3/14). If C gets R1000 more than D then we can write

C = D + 1000 \Rightarrow (4)/(14)M = (3)/(14)M + 1000

Solving for M, which is the total sum of money, we get

(1)/(14)M = 1000 \Rightarrow M =R14000

Now that we know how much money is involved we can now solve how much money B gets:

(2)/(14)M = ((1)/(7))(14000) = R2000
