At a country fair, a survey was taken to determine what food do people enjoy. Of the 300 people surveyed, it was determined that 140 people liked popcorn, 126 people liked cotton candy and 87 people liked both popcorn and cotton candy. Of the people surveyed, how many people did not like either of these foods?

Answer:

121 People

Explanation:

The easiest way to do this is by drawing a venn diagram.

If 87 people like both, 126-87 people like only cotton candy = 39 people, and 140-87 people like popcorn = 53 people.

Then we just take 87, 53, and 39 away from the 300 total people to find the amount of people who didn't like either to get 121 people.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions or would like anything further explained :) .

Answer:

121 people

Explanation:

When counting the number of people who liked cotton candy or popcorn, we add 140 and 126, meaning we get 266 people liked one or the other.

However, we are counting the people who liked both twice, so we subtract 87 from this to get 179.

Now we know how many people liked cotton candy OR popcorn OR both, we can just subtract it from the total to see how many people liked neither.

300 - 179 = 121 people who like neither popcorn nor cotton candy
