(x - 8) + (2x - 4) = 15

➼next, add up the common terms

-since there are two variables with x and two number variables, we will rewrite the equation and solve

(-8 - 4) + (2x + x) = 15

-8 - 4 = -12

2x + x = 3x

plug in:

-12 + 3x = 15

➼now get x alone by first getting rid of 12

-do this by doing opposite and adding 12 to everything

-12 + 12 = 0

12 + 15 = 27

plug in:

3x = 27

divide 3 both sides

27/3 = 9

3/3 = 0

➼x = 9
