the width = b => the area of the rectangle = a.b=44m^2 (1)

+) "the length of the rectangle is 3m less than twice the width"

=> 2b-a = 3 (m)

=> a=2b-3

substitute a for (1), we get

the area of the rectangle = a.b = (2b-3).b=44 m^2

=> 2b^2-3b-44=0

=> b=-4 (wrong)

=> b= 5.5 =the width

the lengt = the area of the rectangle/the width=44/5.5=8 m
