17+6p=9
6p=9-17
6p= -8
p= -8/6
p=-4/3

17 + 6p = 9
First we want any number with p on one side and all the other numbers on the opposite side. So we’ll subtract 17 from both sides of the equation.

6p = -8

Then we need to divide both sides by 6 to find p

p = -8/6

Most teachers want the fraction reduced, so it would be -4/3 or - 1 1/3
