HELP ASAP..........

One number is four less than three times a second number. If three more than twice the first number is decreased by twice the second, the result is eleven. Find both numbers.

Answer:

x = 8, y = 4

Explanation:

  • x + 4 = 3y

x = 3y-4

  • 3 + 2x - 2y = 11

2x - 8 = 2y

x - 4 = y

x = y + 4

substitute top equation to this equation

3y-4 = y+4

2y = 8

y = 4

now substitute this into second equation

x = y + 4

x = 8

check answer with first equation

x = 3y-4

8 = 3(4) - 4

8 = 8; correct
