Explanation:

First find the area of the original rectangle

A = l*w = 12*5 = 60 ft^2

Increase the length by 25%

12 + 12*25% = 12 +12*.25= 12+3 = 15

Decrease the width by 20

5 -5*20% = 5-5*.2 = 5-1 = 4

The new area is

A = l*w = 15*4 = 60ft^2
