Peter has a rectangular garden. The length is 22 feet, and the diagonal measures 28 feet. What is the width of the garden? Round to the nearest tenth.

Make the width x. Divide the garden into two triangles, with the diagonal being 28.

Here you use the Pythagorean theorem where 28^2- 22^2= x^2

You get 300= x^2, and when you square root both sides you get x=17.32

Answer: x=17.32
