The area (A) of a trapezium is calculated as

(1)/(2) h ( b₁ + b₂ )

where h is the perpendicular height and b₁, b₂ the parallel bases

By counting squares

h = 3, b₁ = 3, b₂ = 9 , then

A =
(1)/(2) × 3 × (3 + 9) = 1.5 × 12 = 18 units²
