The perimeter of a rectangle with width, x cm and length, y cm is 82cm. If the length of a rectangle is 15 cm longer than its width, calculate the length and the width of the rectangle.

Answer:

Here, let width of the rectangle be x cm then length becomes xcm+5cm(length of the rectangle is 5cm longer than width)

Now, we know

Perimeter(p)=2(length+width)

40= 2(x+5+x)

40=2(2x+ 5)

40/2=2x+5

20=2x+5

20–5=2x

15/2=x

x=7.5

Now,

length=x+5=7.5+5=12.5cm

width=x=7.5cm

Therefore length is 12.5cm and width is 7.5cm.
