There are 14 , 000 students attending a private college. There are 5 , 600 evening students. What percent of all students are the evening students?

Evening students are _ % of all the college's students.

The answer would be 40%

the idea is that whatever is on top (numerator) would be your smaller value, and the larger value or 100%of the amount is the bottom (denominator). For example, take 20 out of 100 students who are absent today. what percent were absent. The way you would work it out would be to take the smaller value divided by the bigger value or 20/100, which is the same as saying 2/10 or if you convert it to decimals it .2 or 20 hundredths. multiply .2. by 100, and you get 20 %. same deal here you take 5600/14000 or similarly you can cancel out the zeros at the end of 5600 with the last two zeros in 14000 to get 56/140, this shoukddivide evenly and you shoild get .4 or 40 hundredths. Then multiply by 100, and it should end up being 40 % of all students are evening students. I hope this helps.
