Ava paid $135 for a membership to use the tennis courts at City Park. She paid an additional $4 each time she reserved a court. At the end of summer, she had paid $167 for the membership and reservations. Which equation could be used to determine the number of reservations (x) Ava made?

Answer:

4x + 135 = 167

Explanation:

So from this information we know Ava paid a flat $135 just for the membership. We know that each time she used the court, she needed to pay $4, what we do not know is how many times she used the court. We know the total at the end is $167 So in this case, the variable called x, would be the unknown, which we concluded earlier was the amount of times she went to the court. So given all this information the equation would be:

135 + 4x = 167

or

4x + 135 = 167 just depending on the format preferred.

And if you are curious, Ava used the courts 8 times.
