Answer:

...Jacob read 21 pages from a book on Saturday. He read 5/9 of the rest on Sunday. He still had a third of the book to read.

1. How many pages were there in the book?

x= the number of pages

21+5x/9+x/3 =x

(189+5x+3x)/9=9x/9

8x+189=9x

8x-9x=-189

x=189

there were 189 pages

2. ratio between the number of pages read on Saturday=21/189=1/9 and the number of pages read on Sunday.= on Sunday he read 5/9 i.e. (189*5)/9=105 pages

ratio: 105/189=5/9
