Answer:

This is a correction, thanks to a comment that was added. I used 16cm for the triangle base - it should have been 20 cm.

Corrected area of the shape is 230 cm^2

Explanation:

See the attached image. Break the shape up into a triangle and a rectangle. The areas of the two shapes are then calculated and summed to yield the total shape area of 230 cm^2

The area of a triangle is (1/2)*b*h (90 cm^2)

The area of a rectangle is b*h (140 cm^2)

where b and h are lengths of the base and height.

The total is 230 cm^2

Answer:

  • Area of the shape is 230 cm²

Explanation:

From the given figure, We can see that shape consist of a rectangle and a triangle.

To calculate the total area of the space We firstly need to find the area of triangle and the area of the rectangle.

Area of the rectangle (I) :

  • Area = Length × width

Length of the rectangle is 20 cm

Width of the rectangle is 7 cm

  • 20 × 7
  • 140 cm²

Area of the triangle (II) :

  • Area = ½ × Base × height

Base is 20 cm

Height is (16cm - 7cm) = 9 cm.

  • 1½ × 20 × 9
  • 10 × 9
  • 90 cm²

Area of the whole shape = Area of rectangle + Area of triangle

  • 140 + 90
  • 230 cm²

Hence, The area of the shape is 230 cm²
