Without a strong and definitive understanding of the various systems and structures of the body, a medical professional cannot assist the patient in recovery. For example, without a proper understanding of how the heart works, cardiovascular surgeons cannot be sure of which section of the heart they should work on. During a heart attack, if the oxygen-less blood IS being filled, but cannot exit the heart, then there is clearly a problem with the left ventricle.
