Egyptians used their written language called Hieroglyphics and wrote on papyrus scrolls to keep records. They also used this writing to decorate tombs. They decorated tombs with paint and showed the life of the dead, their accomplishments, spells, blessings, hopes for the afterlife, etc.

Lots of the text on tomb walls were used to create the Book of the Dead which was written in hieroglyphics as well.
