y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

here slope m = 2 , then

y = 2x + c ← is the partial equation

to find c substitute (5, 4 ) into the partial equation

4 = 2(5) + c = 10 + c ( subtract 10 from both sides )

- 6 = c

that is the y- intercept c = - 6
