A. demanding the removal of nuclear missiles.
During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union engaged in a tense standoff that included the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. The Soviet Union had placed nuclear missiles on the island of Cuba, which is located just 90 miles off the coast of Florida, in response to the United States placing missiles in Turkey. The United States demanded that the Soviet Union remove the missiles from Cuba, and a tense standoff ensued. Ultimately, the Soviet Union agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba and to remove its missiles from Turkey.
