The resolution is described on page 186, where it is stated that "Brian looked into the cockpit of the plane and saw the pilot, a young man, looking back at him. It all stopped, the fear, the loneliness, the uncertainty, and there was only the plane and the pilot and the feeling that it was over." This moment marks the end of Brian's struggle to survive and the beginning of his journey towards recovery and readjustment to civilization.
