It's almost every single day that I forget something. I forgot that I have homework. Every time I go to my friends' houses, I always forget one thing, like my coat or my favorite shades. When my friends agree on hanging out after school the next day, I completely forget that we have plans or even had the conversation about in it general. I lose things a lot. I lost my phone once and had to wait an hour till my mother had gotten home to use her motherly magic to find it. Moms always find everything. I recently just lost my favorite leather coat and don't remember where I put it. I'm starting to think that this isn't a normal thing. Everyone gets angry every time I forget something, and it's starting to get annoying. People tell me to retrace my steps all the time, but how can I retrace them when I don't remember anything. Could it be some form of memory loss or a slight symptom of ADHD? Help me out here!

Answer:

It appears that you are grappling with a pervasive issue of forgetfulness that has been causing you some degree of distress and affecting your ability to carry out daily activities effectively. While forgetfulness is a common occurrence for many individuals, it is important to recognise when it becomes a persistent problem that warrants attention and intervention.

It is possible that your forgetfulness could be a symptom of an underlying health condition such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, or sleep deprivation, among others. Alternatively, it could be a result of your personality type or a busy lifestyle. Nevertheless, it is imperative that you take proactive steps to understand the root cause of your forgetfulness and develop effective strategies to mitigate its impact on your life.

To this end, I would suggest seeking guidance from a healthcare professional, such as a primary care physician or mental health specialist. They can provide an objective assessment of your condition and recommend appropriate interventions or treatments to improve your memory and concentration.

In the meantime, you can also explore various self-help techniques to help you manage your forgetfulness, such as mindfulness practices, organisation tools, and the establishment of healthy routines. By adopting a comprehensive approach to addressing your forgetfulness, you can regain greater control over your daily life and optimize your overall wellbeing.

Some organization tools include to-do lists, calendars, note-taking apps, task-management apps, and filing systems, which can help to enhance productivity, prioritize tasks, and manage schedules. The moment your friends make plans, for example, straight after having the conversation, you could jot it down on your phone and set a reminder. You could even go as far as recording the conversations ( with their permission ) and setting reminders for that too.
