A ramp is used to go up one step.

The ramp is 3 m long. The step is 30 cm high.
How far away from the step (x) does the ramp start?
Give your answer in metres, to the nearest centimetre.

Answer:

3 meters = 300 centimeters

Using the Pythagorean Theorem:


{x}^(2) + {30}^(2) = {300}^(2)


{x}^(2) + 900 = 90000


{x}^(2) = 89100


x = 90 √(11) = 298.49

x = about 298 centimeters

= about 2.98 meters
