This week, we are discussing conflict resolution in the context of ethics. We've all met with conflict at home, at work, with friends, or in public. The way we take on conflict can tell us a lot about our ethics. For our discussion this week, please do the following.

Think of a conflict you have recently experienced, either at work or in your personal life. Describe it for us in your own words. You may change or omit names as needed to protect privacy.
Apply one of the conflict resolution methods from our lesson this week to this conflict.
Create a short dialogue between the people experiencing the conflict to see if the conflict resolution method you chose is likely to be effective.

Conflict: Two colleagues, John and Sarah, are arguing over the allocation of resources for their project. John believes that they need more resources to complete the project successfully, while Sarah thinks they can manage with the current resources.

Conflict Resolution Method: Collaborating

Dialogue:

John: I really think we need more resources to complete this project on time. We are already behind schedule, and we need to catch up.

Sarah: I understand your concerns, but I think we can manage with the current resources. We just need to prioritize our tasks and work more efficiently.

John: I agree that we need to work efficiently, but I don't think that's enough. We also need more manpower and equipment to get the job done.

Sarah: I see your point, but we don't have the budget to allocate more resources. We need to find a way to work with what we have.

John: Okay, how about we collaborate and come up with a plan that works for both of us? We can prioritize our tasks and find ways to work more efficiently, but we can also explore other options to get more resources.

Sarah: That sounds like a good idea. We can present our plan to our supervisor and see if we can get additional resources allocated to our project.

In this dialogue, John and Sarah used the collaborating conflict resolution method to resolve their conflict. They worked together to find a solution that would work for both of them and explored different options to get the resources they needed. By collaborating, they were able to come up with a plan that addressed both of their concerns and was likely to be effective in resolving their conflict.
