A=(1)/(2) * base* height

So we get


A=(1)/(2) x^2

Sub in
x=2.5 gives


A=(1)/(2) (2.5)^2


=(1)/(2) ((5)/(2) )^2


=(1)/(2) ((25)/(4) )


=(25)/(8)


=3(1)/(8)


=3.125

The last 3 are all equally good answers....I don't know which form they are looking for.
