Poland - The city of Szczecin in western Poland is located on the Oder River near the German border. Szczecin’s city center includes this 1,600-foot-long riverfront promenade known as the Wały Chrobrego, or the Chrobry Embankment. In addition to restaurants and bars, the area hosts a number of outdoor events in summer. Szczecin was the ducal seat of Pomerania between the 12th and 17th centuries, and the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes is part of the historic city center. Nearby, the Historical Museum is located in the city’s Gothic Town Hall, built in the 15th century. Both buildings were mostly rebuilt after World War II, but their museums are packed with local history.
