by the 1770s, the colonists were angry because they did not have self government. self government meant they could govern themselves and make their own laws. the colonists had to pay the king and felt that they were paying taxes without any representation. the colonists also believed that the king had too much power over the colonies and the colonies didnt want a government that was too powerful so it ended up being too weak meaning the congress didn’t have enough power.
