(9x - 5) and (4x + 10) are vertically opposite angles and are congruent, so

9x - 5 = 4x + 10 ( subtract 4x from both sides )

5x - 5 = 10 ( add 5 to both sides )

5x = 15 ( divide both sides by 5 )

x = 3

then

4x + 10 = 4(3) + 10 = 12 + 10 = 22°

∠ 1 and (4x + 10) are a linear pair and sum to 180° , that is

∠ 1 + 22° = 180° ( subtract 22° from both sides )

∠ 1 = 158°
