Hello!

Yes the Japanese did reject trading attempts, because it didn't want any religious influence in its country, after that the Japanese cut off all tradings from Europe, after a couple of years, Europe started having a limit of trading to/from Japan, and that limit got bigger and bigger, until the trades had no limit again.

-Hope this helps :)

Answer:-

Persistent attempts by the Europeans to convert the Japanese to Catholicism and their tendency to engage in unfair trading practices led Japan to expel most foreigners in 1639. For the two centuries that followed, Japan limited trade access to Dutch and Chinese ships with special charters.

(so the answer simply is yes the Japanese did reject attempts by the Europeans to trade with.)
