Heather’s family has a history of drug and alcohol abuse. Heather’s father left the family when she was very young, and her mother has been raising Heather and her siblings on her own. Heather’s mother is an alcoholic and often leaves the children to fend for themselves when she’s out drinking. Heather is a good student and tries hard to get good grades. She also volunteers after school sometimes to tutor other students in math. Heather’s friends do not use alcohol or tobacco. In fact, Heather is on the drug-prevention team at school. 1.C, why? Tutors and volunteers Heather works with can help Heather avoid using drugs in the future. They can educate her about the dangers of drugs and why not to use them.
2.A, why? If her friends don’t use drugs Heather can avoid peer pressure to try drugs. They can have positive peer pressure on Heather not to use drugs
3.D, why? If she has good social skills she can say “No” to pressure to try drugs. She can also express her concern about them to trusted adults and friends. It can also help her if she feels pressured to try drugs and has not idea what to do to a trusted adult.
4.B, why?because her family has a history of using drugs for example her mother is addicted to alcohol.
