so,

3p + 6s = 54

and

4p + 9s = 77

then choose one variable to solve for

3p = 54 - 6s

divide both sides by 3

p = 18 - 2s

then plug your answer for p into the other equation:

4(18 - 2s) + 9s = 77

finally, solve for s

72 - 8s + 9s = 77

s = 5

if s=5 then

3p + 6(5) = 54

p = 8
