We can subtract the y values since the x values are the same to find the distance

4-(-2)

4+2

6 is the length of the hypotenuse so we can fill this into the pythagorean theorem

We can turn both a and b into x since this sides will be the same


6^2=x^2+x^2


36=2x^2

Divide both sides by 2


18=x^2

Square root both sides


√(18) =x
