Answer:

y= -7/4 and x=0

Explanation:

x+3y = 9-x+y = 2
I like to set it up like this:

x+3y
-x+y+9=2

add the x's together to eliminate them

4y+9=2

combine like terms
4y=-7

y= -7/4

then plug into the equations to find x

x+3(-7/4) = -x+(-7/4)+9 = 2

x-5.25 = -x+7.25 = 2

Combine like terms (the X's)

7.25-5.25 = 2

I believe that this means x equals 0
