The rate of change at the interval is -5/3

d. -5/3

How to find the rate of change

Formula for rate of change is

= (change in y) / (change in x)

The interval are x values and we use it to solve for the y-values

y = f(x) = x² + 2

For x = -1, y = (-1)² + 2 = 3

For x = -2/3, y = (-2/3)² + 2 = 4/9 + 2 = 22/9

The points are (-1, 3) and (-2/3, 22/9)

Average Rate of Change

change in y = 3 - 22/9 = 5/9

change in x = -1 - (-2/3) = -1/3

average rate of change = 5/9 / -1/3

average rate of change = -5/3
