Explanation:

since AB = AC then Δ ABC is isosceles with the base angles being congruent , that is

∠ B = ∠ C = 47°

AD is the perpendicular bisector of BC , then x = 90°

the sum of the 3 angles in Δ ABD = 180° , so

y + x + ∠ B = 180

y + 90 + 47 = 180

y + 137 = 180 ( subtract 137 from both sides )

y = 43
