Explanation:

Given that x = - 4 is a zero then p(- 4) = 0, that is

p(x) = x² - 2x - (7p + 3), then

(- 4)² - 2(- 4) - 7p - 3 = 0, that is

16 + 8 - 7p - 3 = 0

21 - 7p = 0 ( subtract 21 from both sides )

- 7p = - 21 ( divide both sides by - 7 )

p = 3
