(a) The free body diagram of the forces acting on the box is shown in the image attached.

(b) The net force equation for the vertical force is F(net) = W - N

(c) The force of gravity of earth on the mass is 49 N and the force push of the table on the mass is 49 N.

How to draw the free body diagram of the forces?

(a) The free body diagram of the forces acting on the box consists of the weight of the box (W) acting downwards, normal forces (N) from the table acting upwards, applied force (F) right ward and force of friction (Fs) acting leftward.

(b) The net force equation for the vertical force is written as;

F(net) = W - N

(c) The force of gravity of earth on the mass is calculated as;

Fg = W = mg

where;

  • m is the mass of the box
  • g is acceleration due to gravity

Fg = 5 kg x 9.8 m/s²

Fg = 49 N

The force push of the table on the mass is calculated as;

N = F(push) = Fg = W = 49 N
