The correct answer is that Eric has six shirts which can each be worn with either of the 2 pair of shorts. That means he has (6x2) = 12 potential outfit options. Those 12 outfits can then be worn with any of the three pairs of shoes that he has which means he now has (12 x 3) = 36 outfit options. So a total of 36 outfit options is the correct answer.
