Answer: 3

I used PEMDAS in this explanation: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. Also known as the order of operations

Explanation:

-5 + (5+3) :

First, add 5+3 =8

-5+8

When adding a negative to a positive, first, switch the -5 and 8 around like so.

8 + (-5)

then turn the -5 into it's opposite and subtract ---> 5

8-5=3

Unworded explanation:

-5 + (5+3) :

-5 + 8

8 + (-5)

8-5 = 3
