Fitness mania charges 20$ to join their gym and then 15$ per month.

1. Write an equation in slope intercept form.
2. How much will it cost to belong to Fitness Mania for one year?
3. If a different gym LVAC, charges 0$ to join and 20$ a month, which gym would be the cheaper choice for one year?

Given

  • Joining fee is the y-intercept, b = 20
  • Monthly fee is the slope, m = 15

1. The equation

  • y = mx + b
  • y = 15x + 20

2. Cost for one year

  • y = 12×15 + 20 = 180 + 20 = 200

3. Cost for one year at the LVAC

  • 12×20 = 240

Fitness mania is cheaper as $200 < $240
