Okay, first the problem does look really weird, but it looks like a scientific notation question and the answer choices pretty much confirms this. For scientific notation the number is written with two parts, the front part is a number between 1 and 10 (not including 10) so it can be 1.2 or 3.56 or 9.289 and the second part is a 10 raised up to a power. So a whole entire number in scientific notation is something like 9.5 × 10^-2 SO, in your question, there is a weird notation being used which has the front number and the big E and then the exponent part that should be set up on the 10.

Your question:

(9.5×10^-2)times(4.15×10^-4)

in normal numbers is:

0.095 × 0.000415

You can totally use a calculator for this multiplication (it is, in fact just two numbers being multiplied together) Some calculators have an EE button. Or just use lots of parentheses and an exponent button like ^ or "x to the y power" button.

Anyway, your question will yield 3.9425 × 10^-5
