I am trying to identify a project scope, stakeholders, sponsor, customer, constraints and risks. I am having the most trouble summarizing the scope of a project, because I am unsure of what is all included in a scope. I am also looking for feedback on adjustments I could make to the constraints and risks I mentioned.

The business has given this information: "roads freeze in winter and icy conditions cause road accidents that may potentially kill people. Predications at the moment rely largely on guesswork and experience from motorists and the police. Trucks do not always get to the icy roads in time to prevent accidents, or they may arrive far too early, which results in the de-icing material being dispersed by the time the road freezes. Road treatment is sometimes indiscriminate, and this wastes de-icing material and causes environmental damage."

This is what I have gathered so far. I have just started learning about business requirements, so any and all feedback is appreciated.

Goal and Scope:

The primary goal of the Icebreaker project is to gather data from the environment to accurately predict when ice will form on the roads. This data will be used to schedule the trucks to treat the roads with de-icing material to reduce traffic accidents and promote safety.

The scope of the Icebreaker project involves several deliverables. A weather forecasting service must generate readings about the temperature of the road surface. Predictions will be generated about which roads to freeze, and trucks are dispatched.

Stakeholders:

Two key stakeholders involved in the Icebreaker project include Vaisala (U.K.) Limited and Vaisala Worldwide. Vaisala is a company that manufactures measurement products and services, including ice forecasting and road de-icing systems. The customer, Northumberland County Highways Department, is also a stakeholder because they have an interest in the outcome of the product. Another stakeholder includes the thermal mapping supplier.

Sponsor:

The project sponsor for this product is Mack Andrews, the CEO of the Saltworks Systems company. His role is to ensure that all resources required are met and promote the Icebreaker project.

Customer:

The customer is the Northumberland County Highways Department, which is represented by director Jane Shaftoe. This department is the client that will buy the service that the Icebreaker product offers.

Constraints:

One project constraint is extensive costs required to successfully produce a viable product. Rise in materials and supplies may happen unexpectedly and lead to negative impacts on the project schedule and scope. Another project constraint is operational errors in ice forecasting system, as well as the road de-icing system. Errors involving these systems would result in wasted resources, delayed schedule, and increased risk of traffic accidents.

Risks:

The manager should be aware of possible risks, especially those that would have the greatest impact on the product. One risk is the potential for supply chain issues, which would cause major delays in the schedule and safety hazards on the roads. We are using products and material produced by Vaisala (U.K.) Limited Vaisala Worldwide, so one risk is the potential for supply chain issues, resulting in lack of material to carry out the de-icing and impairing the schedule.

Final answer:

The scope of a project includes the deliverables and objectives. Adjustments to constraints and risks can be made to include additional factors such as resource availability and supply chain issues.

Step-by-step explanation:

The scope of a project includes all the deliverables and objectives that need to be achieved. In the case of the Icebreaker project, the scope involves gathering data to accurately predict when ice will form on the roads and scheduling trucks to treat the roads with de-icing material. The project also includes the deliverables of a weather forecasting service and road treatment trucks.

As for the adjustments to the constraints and risks, one adjustment you could make is to consider additional constraints such as the availability of resources and personnel. This can help ensure that the project remains realistic and achievable given the constraints. Additionally, you can also consider adding more specific risks related to supply chain issues and their impact on the project schedule and safety.
