Step by Step

y=mx+b

First find the slope

equation: y2-y1 divided by x2-x1

1-(-1)/-5-5

2/-10

simplified to -1/5

Now that we have the slope we need the y-int

using point slope form: y-y1=m(x-x1)

Let us use the point (5,-1)

y-(-1)=-1/5(x-5)

y+1=-1/5x+1

Subtract 1 to both sides
