So if longer (30) side faces N + S
The parallel must be the 20 side

20/2 = 10 = center
So from south , Jan walks 10 forward and turns 8 foot east

Since she started in the middle already only 10 foot counts

So 10-8 = 2 foot away from east side

Hope that made sense!
I have a diagram explaining it too
