The image that is characteristic of a mafic melt source is attached in the picture
What is mafic magma?
At least 30 kilometers below the surface, the uppermost parts of the underlying mantle partially melted to form the mafic magma.
It should be remembered that mafic magma rises into the breach created by diverging lithospheric plates from its source in the upper mantle. Large lava-covered areas known as flood basalts and lengthy, linear basaltic mountain ranges are the products of the ensuing underwater eruptions. Continents can also contain flood basalts.
