A volleyball player hit the ball straight up into the air. The ball was in the air for 2.2 seconds before another player could hit the ball. What height did the volleyball reach? (Hint: You may want to draw a picture of the volleyball's path, and the answer is not 23.72 m.)

The volleyball reached a height is 24m

To determine the height the volleyball reached, we use the formula expressed as;

h = 1/2gt²

Such that the parameters are given as;

  • h is the height
  • g is acceleration due to gravity
  • t is the time taken

Now, substitute the value, we have;

h = 1/2 ×9.8 × (2.2)²

find the square value, we get;

h = 1/2 × 9. 8 × 4.84

Multiply the values, we get;

h = 1/2 × 47. 432

Then, we have that;

h = 24m
