The wood board will be cut into 4 pieces

Lenght of each is


8(5)/(7)\text{ inches }

Then we simplify the fraction above


8(5)/(7)=(61)/(7)inches\text{ }


\begin{gathered} (61)/(7)=8.9\text{ } \\ \text{Which is estimated as } \\ 9\text{inches} \end{gathered}

Since there are 4 pieces, we then multiply the lenght of each


4*9=36\text{ inches }

Tom needs to buy a wood board of 36 inches
