Given:

Total sample space, n(s)=36.

To find the probability that the sum of the pips is 6 on the upward faces of the 2 dice:

A be an event of getting the sum as 6.

n(A)=5

Hence, the probability that the sum of the pips 6 is,

\begin{gathered} P(A)=(n(A))/(n(S)) \\ =(5)/(36) \end{gathered}

Hence, the answer is,

(5)/(36)
