Given:

The average yearly salary of a lawyer is $24 thousand less than twice that of an architect.

Combined, an architect and a lawyer earn $ 207 thousand.

Then, let the average yearly of an architect be: x

and let average yearly of a lawyer: 2x - 24000

- The average yearly salary of an architect

We have the expression:

x+(2x-24000)=207000

Then solve for x

\begin{gathered} x+2x-24000=207000 \\ 3x-24000=207000 \\ 3x-24000+24000=207000+24000 \\ 3x=231000 \\ (3x)/(3)=(231000)/(3) \\ x=77000 \end{gathered}

Answer 1: $77 thousand

- The average yearly salary of a lawyer

Substituting the value of x:

2x-24000=2(77000)-24000=154000-24000=130000

Answer 2: $130 thousand
