The question can be interpreted as follows;

2 bowls contain 16 fish

Therefore, how many bowls would you need to hold 48 fish?

This means, the average in each bowl would be

\begin{gathered} \text{Average}=(16)/(2) \\ \text{Average}=8\text{ fish (per bowl)} \end{gathered}

Next step, you can now divide 48 fish by 8 fish to find out how many bowls of 8 fish in each bowl you would have.

\begin{gathered} \text{Number of bowls}=(48)/(8) \\ \text{Number of bowls}=6 \end{gathered}

A quicker and more straightforward method is simply to set up an equation using the values given as ratios. This is shown below;

(16)/(2)=(48)/(x)

Cross multiply and you'll have;

\begin{gathered} x=(2*48)/(16) \\ x=(48)/(8) \\ x=6 \end{gathered}

Therefore;

ANSWER:

x=6
