A string pulls a box at an angle of 10° and a tension of 30N. If the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.05 and the mass of the box is 10 kg, what is the acceleration of the box?

The acceleration of the box is determined as 2.46 m/s².

How to calculate the acceleration of the box?

The acceleration of the box is calculated by applying the following formula for Newton's second law of motion as follows;

F(net) = ma

where;

  • m is the mass of box
  • a is the acceleration of the box

T cosθ - μmg = ma

where;

  • T is the applied tension force
  • θ is the direction of the force
  • μ is coefficient of friction

The acceleration of the box is calculated as;

30 N x cos (10) - 0.05 x 10 kg x (9.8 m/s²) = 10 kg x (a)

24.64 = 10a

a = 2.46 m/s²
